I will be guide for this session by Einat Amir, 2013
I Will Be Your Guide for This Session follows two groups of participants as they embark on a journey examining personal narratives through psychoanalytic and physical exercises. Through the direction of two professional guides, the boundaries between the performative and the authentic are challenged. The participants of these two groups were volunteers selected through an open call and asked to choose a vest emblazoned with a word, such as “childhood”, “sex” or “happiness” amongst others, that provided an additional emotional trigger during the session. The outcome of this experiment was unpredictable. The filmed sessions were not scripted or rehearsed, appropriating methods used by Reality TV into this layered and complex artwork. I Will Be Your Guide for This Session is part of a larger project, Our Best Intentions, which is both video installation and live performance and was previously shown at the performance biennial Performa13.
